Can't say I'd ever witnessed a treecreeper's tongue before this little fellow crept up the trump stump, had a sneaky peak over the top, grabbed a morsel of food then flew off to continue resembling a piece of bark... which is what they ususally do :)
Pleased this photo came out at all as it was...
To add the detail I used a fine liner graphic pen to pick out the key lines of the bark, which has proved to work well in the overall composition, and by using multiple layers of white acrylic paint I've produced a good bark texture as well.I left the central areas of the pattern with a limited...
As we all now know from Ken, Friday is Treecreeper Day, so here is my shot of a renegade Sunday special at Strumpshaw. I think the holly leaves give a good idea of just how tiny these birds are. Oh for some of Ken's outstanding detail! I defer to the master. Ron
Quite a few of these around the orchard area of the reserve. This one was behaving like a flycatcher - launching off the tree to catch insects in mid-air over the river. Most unusual.
This guy has been illusive in the past but, today I was able to get a few meters from him and get a shot before he took off.

Visits about 6 times a year...only a day or two at a time...only in winter months
A Treecreeper at Strumpshaw Fen. I see loads of these little guys but I really struggle trying to photograph them. Mind you that applies to most of the birds I see! One day I will get it sorted out. Ron
A pair of Treecreepers showed well for Ken & I, was wonderful to watch them moving around the studio! how these little birds gave two men, such magical moments.
