Looks like the male Tufted Ducks are all chasing after the same female!! Taken on a recent visit to Kinnordy at the end of April. Saturday Fun
  2. Tufted Duck

    Tufted Duck

Usually a sleepy head, but not this time. This adult female was first noted by Ron Thorn six years ago January 2018 and it has returned every winter since. She can be difficult to pick out when sleeping with her head tucked. In addition to the tuft, the broad black bill tip extending well beyond...

    First for a while

We got to the lochan on my patch and I found a couple of Tufted Duck enjoying themselves. It's a long time since I'd seen them there. They first bred there on my patch back in 2006. But after a few years they just seemed to stop coming.

Greater Scaup or Tufted Duck, Gloucestershire UK

Hi all. Looking through some old records and found an observation that gave me pause. This grainy photo is a bird I originally identified as female Greater Scaup last year in Late July. I have had a lot of encounters with Scaup over the years, and for me the jizz of this bird was very scauplike...

Tufted duck or Greater scaup? (Iceland)

Hi, Is this a tufted duck or greater scaup? Spotted in a lake with many other tufted ducks, but thought this looked slightly different, especially the greenish hue on the head, although I'm not sure if this is just an artifact. Its back also looks slightly greyish. Many thanks.

Thanks to Dan Keller for discovering this rarity 24 November. This adult female was first noted by Ron Thorn five years ago 25 January 2018 and it has returned every winter since. She can be difficult to pick out when her head is tucked and sleeping. Notice the faint purple gloss to her head...

Yet again - tufted or scaup - Western Isles, Scotland

Came across this bird yesterday on the Western Isles, Scotland. From the eye color (not very yellow) and overall plumage I assume this is a juvenile, so maybe some features might not yet be as developed as on and adult bird. The bill doesn't show the small, black tip of a scaup, but it seems...

    Ducks in the Netherlands--Groningen

Hi all! Mallards/Gadwalls and Tufted Ducks are sometimes difficult for me in their summer plumages. Can you confirm Mallard for duck 1 and Tufted Duck for duck 2a-b? Photographs taken 28.08.2022. Thanks!
