  1. Group Activities

    Group Activities

On our return to the lake area a whole flock of Pelicans swam into view and started diving, I guess for food. It made quite a site really, especially for someone who hadn't seen pelicans before that trip!
  2. High flyer

    High flyer

I'm hardly ever lucky enough to see Peregrines at home, so this was a real delight for me. Although he was rather high and this is a big crop I'm fairly pleased with the result. This is the Australian subspecies macropus.
  3. Shy

    Shy

We walked along a little bridge (more a board walk really), when Ken spotted a movement in the grass which he assured me was a female Superb Fairywren. The male I'd seen the day before just plopped down onto the ground in front of me, but this blooking woman couldn't have been in a worse place...
  4. Leading the way

    Leading the way

It appears this Magpie-lark is showing us the way into the park LOL. You can just about see that this is a female as she has a white forehead. The male's face is all black.
  5. Speared

    Speared

Looks like this Little Corella has been speared by that twig. We'd moved away from the waterside and were beginning to wander more into the park. I spotted this beauty up in a tree. More laptop problems again today, with a new Windows update!!
  6. Identity Crisis

    Identity Crisis

This one doesn't know if he's a duck or a goose, as he also goes under the names of Australian Wood Duck and Maned Goose. The only member of the genus Chenonetta.
  7. What a splash

    What a splash

I'm not sure now, if he was fishing or bathing - whatever, water was flying everywhere LOL. Yep, there were these huge pelicans on there too, I'll maybe show more later. I wonder if "conspicillatus" translates as conspicuous in some language or other?
  8. All Blacks

    All Blacks

.... but the wrong country for my title LOL. The following day we headed for Tygum Park, a local nature park on the Logan River. From the car park you just sort of head straight for the water and there were loads of 'black' water birds. Here we have some Black Swans, Eurasian Coots and a...
  9. Working together

    Working together

Back at the lake a large group of Pelicans sailed in and started what I can only think was a fishing session!
  10. On the prowl

    On the prowl

Suddenly we noticed a raptor in the air, bit distant for my camera but it's a Peregrine. This is the Australian subspecies macropus.
  11. Birding ain't easy

    Birding ain't easy

These tiny wee fairywrens in the long grass and never keeping still. Really makes it hard to follow them and get a picture.
  12. Mrs foraging

    Mrs foraging

A female Magpie-Lark was busy foraging in the grass beside the path as we walked further into the park. They're such busy wee birds these.
  13. Pretty in white

    Pretty in white

One of the main objects for visiting Tygum, was to see the large number of Corellas there. This was just one of them! Pretty birds, aren't they.
  14. Everything about them is big!!

    Everything about them is big!!

There were also some Pelicans, in fact quite a few, in the lake. I think that may be a Black Duck swimming through too.
  15. The one with many names

    The one with many names

Confusingly this duck is also known as Wood Duck, but there's an American one, so this then has to have 'Australian' added to the name. In addition it's been called Maned Goose (I think due to it's rather small bill). Anyway, there were a few loafing on the bank of the lake, and yet more...
  16. Black and red in the blue

Black and red in the blue

I'd seen the odd one of these in England in the distant past, of course, but this was my first 'proper' one LOL. There were a few around.
  17. Neat!

    Neat!

Well, I think he is. The next day we were off to the rather attractive Tygum Park which has a large lake in it. Loads of birds on and around, so I'll start with this Eurasian Coot.
  18. How lucky do ya feel ha

How lucky do ya feel ha

A weird moment between me and a crow didn't like staring down at my lens lol sorry its a bit blurred was an unexpected capture.
  19. Corella love

    Corella love

A photo I took in Tygum park these two sweethearts were taking turns preening each other I stood for ages watching them through my cameras lens so precious.
  20. Wild Goose

    Wild Goose

A photo I took at Tygum Park Brisbane, the park is looked after by our local council there are heaps of wild birds and native trees for the birds to forage in and a beautiful shallow water lake with pontoon and island in the centre for birds to nest.
