Wildlife Photography: The Brown Dipper | Fast Waters, Wild Spirit in Northwest Vietnam

A wildlife photography journey through Nam Cang, Hoàng Liên Sơn National Park, Northwest Vietnam, chasing the Brown Dipper, a bird that dives in icy, fast-flowing rapids. Battling setbacks, I waited in 3°C cold, hoping to witness its magic. This is my winter wildlife photography story in the...

    Ashy Tailorbird

I'd say its beak has been perfectly Tailored to catching insects.
  4. Someone's barking up the wrong tree

Someone's barking up the wrong tree

Of all the trees in this park, this innocent Red-breasted parakeet decided to land on this open tree where a busy Ashy Drongo was perching patiently waiting for the next aerial sally towards the dragonfly swarm below. One of them's gonna have to leave, and it ain't gonna be the Drongo.
  5. Kingfisher's catch of the day

A juvenile(?) Collared Kingfisher with its recently caught crab at Tan Thanh beach, Tien Giang, Vietnam. I was driving along this beach the other day when I spotted a pair of these, perching patiently on this wooden post. The midday sunlight was so intense that I was able to get away with a...

Peach blossoms season, featuring an Indian White-eye

It's spring time here in Vietnam, where these colorful flowers blossom, especially in the more temperate and cold regions of the country such as Da Lat. This has attracted many tourists and, unsuprisingly, birds like these Indian White-eyes that came to feed on the nectar.

  10. Vietnamese Greenfinch

    Vietnamese Greenfinch

A Vietnamese Greenfinch perching on a line in Lam Dong, Vietnam. As the name suggests, it's an endemic species that can be found only in the Da Lat Plateau of southern Vietnam. It's a lifer for me too!
  11. White-rumped munia

    White-rumped munia

I'd say this species is among the cuttest I've encountered. Something about the connical beak, the innocent eyes, and the texture pattern just makes it so lovable.

  13. Coppersmith Barbet

    Coppersmith Barbet

I guess it was trying to carve a nest out of this tree. It seemed quite diligent and wasn't bothered by my presence. I notice these barbets usually perch high up so it was a treat to see one came so close to the ground.

What species of Flycatcher was it? - Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam

I captured it at Gia Dinh park in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam several days ago. eBird data shows only 3 types of flycatchers ( Asian Brown, Taiga, Grey-Headed Canary) were ever present in this park. However, as far as i'm aware, none of those have light blue back like this one.

Sandpiper? - Vung Tau, Vietnam - Oct 24

I stumbled upon this bold guy landing on a rock very close to the shore. I wasn't carrying my 7D II at the time so I had to zoom all the way in with crappy iPhone camera, hence the poor image quality. I guess it was a sandpiper species but I'm not sure. Please help me identify it, thank you.

A seemingly normal bird photography day has turned into one of the most memorable moments of my life. On the morning of October 29th.
