    Quite a rare bird in Holland. This juvenile was feeding close to a shelter in the Oostvaardersplassen.

    This rail was chaing a Redshank around and then after it went to cover, it crossed from on bank to the other...when I got it!

    My first shot of a Water Rail. Two birds were fighting and then swam back to dense undergrowth. Not around for long.

    This bird has been showing very well for a few weeks. Of course, it has also been grey and gloomy every day I have seen it! Managed a few shots today, but shutter speeds were really too slow for this fast moving rail.

    The waterrail was alot of fun in the feeding station today. He was in for a long time and i got alot of photos. He made me laugh though because when he went behind the logs he would keep sticking his head over the top to have a look really quickly then disappear again. I had to train my lens on...

    got another showy water rail today, though only on view for a minute or so - much better light today, was well pleased with this one.

    Now that winter is approaching the water rails are becoming more visible once again. This one came into the feeding station twice in half an hour.

    Normally skulking & secretive this juvenile Water Rail was feeding on small aquatic snails on the edge of a sedge-fringed pool.
