    Attacking wedgie 2

On another visit to this female wedgie's mountain, she came in at me with talons lowered.....the speed is incredible.
  3. Wedgie attack

    Wedgie attack

This very aggressive female wedgie comes from out of the sun to attack, in what is extremely rare behaviour for this species. No eyrie nearby that is being disturbed, just standing on the wrong mountain at the wrong time. She is MAGNIFICENT!
  4. The Mountain Keeper

    The Mountain Keeper

Watercolour Adult male wedgie, magnificent bird, a privilege to study.
  5. Queen of Canobla

    Queen of Canobla

Watercolour. Adult female Wedge-tailed Eagle I have studied for many years, nesting on Canobla in the Blue Mountains.

    Wedge-tailed Eagle

This photo and more of Wedge-tailed Eagles that were photographed on a trip across the outback to Alice Springs in Australia's Northern Territory are available on my blog at the following link... http://topbirdsandeveryfing.typepad.com/top-birds-everyfing/ plus a little about the drive from...
  7. Wedge-tailed Eagle

    Wedge-tailed Eagle

This one is licking its lips after eating some kangaroo roadkill.
  8. Wedge-tailed Eagle

    Wedge-tailed Eagle

The same bird as my earlier post. This is the next shot of the burst.
  9. Wedge-tailed Eagle

    Wedge-tailed Eagle

Last week, after waiting all month for the weather to improve, I went to Baladjie Rock (300+km east of Perth) for a few days. There I enjoyed good weather and great birding too. Despite persecution by generations of sheep farmers, sometimes these magnificent birds just cannot contain their...

    Wedge-tailed Eagle

Finally found a Wedge-tail Eagle and got it in flight. Only problem was it got too close! Magestic bird to watch, in fact there was a pair of them!

  15. A Privileged View

    A Privileged View

Watercolour of my view into the eyrie of a Wedge-tailed Eagle pair, raising their sole chick. From my tiny hide, it is my greatest privilege, end of story.
  16. The Eagle is the Mountain

    The Eagle is the Mountain

A collage piece of my studies of the Wedge-tailed Eagle. Field notes, watercolour, photo transfer, and grid references. One in a series I'm working on for a book on the eagles.
  17. Lord of his domain- Wedge-tailed Eagle

Lord of his domain- Wedge-tailed Eagle

Watercolour 45 x 30 cm. My favourite subject, my favourite mountainous terrain.
  18. Pair at Sunset

    Pair at Sunset

My Blue Mountains pair of wedgies, the day nearly gone, a chick well fed in their eyrie below the cliff ledge.
  19. Wedgie Shuffle

    Wedgie Shuffle

Post-mating, male gone, the female vigorously reshuffles her plumage before departing from the perch near my hide.
  20. Another World

    Another World

More an atmospheric shot rather than anything else, as the day draws to a close the eagle drifts off to resume his hunting before nightfall. I like the resonance between the two elements here, and I'm sure life exists elsewhere in our colossal universe.
  21. Textures and Tones

    Textures and Tones

The juvenile and adult wedgies soared harmoniously together, their feather patterns and colourings mimicing the sandstone cliff-face, as they spiralled on the thermals.
  22. This Wild Spirit

    This Wild Spirit

The juvenile Wedge-tailed Eagle I followed from egg, to fledgling, to going his own way 6 months later. The first one is always extra special. Just where is he now? 30x40cm
  23. Poised to depart

    Poised to depart

The female wedgie of the Blue Mountains pair I study prepares to drop from her lookout perch, and soar out over the valley far below in search of prey for the single chick in her eyrie.
  24. Shadows and Mysteries

    Shadows and Mysteries

This is a Van Dyke light-sensitive emulsion print of bones, feathers and shell fragments I collected from beneath a dormant Wedge-taile Eagle's eyrie. Interestingly, it contains not just bones of various prey species, but also bones from two adult eagles. What was the intriguing story behind...
  25. Soaring By

    Soaring By

An adult wedgie soars by at eye level, cautiously checking me out before sweeping away across the valley, gone from sight in a matter of seconds. Their casual speed never fails to amaze me.
