    Tricky light

Well, we safely negotiated our way round the whistler and started our walk around the lake, first encountering a Welcome Swallow on a tree snag.

    Keeping a low profile

In amongst the reeds we found a fledgling Welcome Swallow, obviously waiting for his next meal. I think this was the youngest one I'd seen.

After that wonderful whale watching cruise, a Welcome Swallow was waiting to see us berth safely.

    Welcome Swallow!

This one turned up a couple of weeks ago and sat on a post out near the ramp. I was going outside to see if I could get a better shot of the Rainbow Lorikeets that were at the feeder, needless to say I stayed with the Welcome Swallow as they are very rare visitors here. Hope you enjoy!

We walked along the path until we could see a bit out over the water. Saw this Welcome Swallow on a snag, unfortunately I couldn't do much about the direction of light.

.... babies? We left the hide and followed the path to the shore, and there, on an old fence post sat these two adorable Welcome Swallow fledglings!! Adorable!

... and there in the reeds, waiting patiently for mum or dad to arrive with some food, was this sweet wee Welcome Swallow, obviously not too long out of the nest. On the surface they do look rather like our Barn Swallows, but these guys lack the black band under the red throat.

    Welcome

I'd was walking up to the car park area (to gain access to the weir... more of which later), when I saw these two Welcome Swallows land on a wire more-or-less over my head.
  22. And there...

    And there...

.... was a Welcome Swallow sitting on one of the bollards as we were docking. Then we had a nice lunch in their cafe before setting off exploring again.

Out on a dead branch over one of the lakes sat this rather pretty Welcome Swallow

I then got myself some practise with flying swallows, there were plenty about collecting mud for their nests. This show I was quite pleased with though as I'd got three pretty well focused birds, and some nice colour on one of them.
