I've taken photos of these birds before, and they always seem to have an air about them.
Wider view of the White-Crowned Sparrow from this morning. This is the first shot I got and was from a greater distance than the other two. Red leaves are from barberry shrub in front of spruce tree. Did not use a fill flash for this one, so the eye looks more natural.
What was the whitish bird I was seeing in the spruce tree this morning? A White-Crowned Sparrow! Back from Northern Canada to spend the winter. Last time I saw one was during May. Used a fill flash, so the eye looks blue (but I think it becomes him, lol).
Has been around for the last several days, but must be just visiting because these birds neither winter nor summer here. Probably on its way to Northern Canada for the summer.

This Beautiful helmet-shrike was foraging in a flock of around 6 birds on the grounds of the pretoriuskop camp in the Kruger NP. they were certainly not shy as they hopped around, oblivious to my presence.
