After a while Judy and I decided to wander along the track (maybe there'd be another seat further along;)) There was but it was in the sun! Through the branches, on the other side of the the we found my next life bird... a White-necked Heron. Sometimes the nomenclaturists get it right don't...

Not a great pic. Distant shot, and my zoom lens wasn't zooming :S Still ... a lifer and an identifiable shot.

White-necked Heron, stalking through the reeds at the edge of the lily lake, searching for insects. Fully extended, it can measure to 1.06m (wing span 1.6m).

Whatever it was, all was eaten including the vegetation

So big I was unable to keep all in focus

It takes a lot of effort to get one of these off the ground

Another first for me. I was trying to sneak up for a closer shot, when a jogger passed by. At least I got this one.

This image has a long story.....when I had returned to the car after finding the Jacky Winter, Pete asked if I wanted my sandwich/lunch 3-30pm LOL... as we looked out I saw this huge form coming in to land at a very small pond about 50metres away, it had 'headlights' !!!! .. a White-necked...

A number of these herons were feeding among wild pigs rooting up a swamp.
