Finally got one to fly close by yesterday morning. At Huntington Beach State Park, SC

A friend of mine, who is a much more experienced birder, let me know that some pelicans were hanging out at Eagle Marsh. I went over with my BIL. We found them, and were able to get some good views. Neat birds!

Watched this bird for about an hour at Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, CA. Plunging its bill repeatedly into the water. When it turned toward me ... Wow!

There must have been 500 white birds all in the same area, and various species, but only white ones. It seemed kind of weird.

Its beak can hold more than its belican.

I saw this Great White Pelican swimming around Lakhota Lake, right in middle of Jamnagar, Gujarat, India with a big fish. I think the fish was too big to swallow, so it was running one place to another trying to swallow it. Finally, it abandoned it after 30 minutes or so.

Adult bird. They winter at Lake Isabella. They spend a great deal of time soaring in loose formation, sometime forming a cevron 'V' before heading in a particular direction.

I'm not sure what type of peeps these are. There were mostly just willets in the area but these look to small.

The visiting White Pelican in our area continues to stick around now going on 15 days here. Seems to be finding plenty of fish to eat and we all assume that it will move on when the weather starts to get a bit colder. For now it is providing a look at a rare bird for our area for lots of...

One more shot of the visiting White Pelican. This guy should really be down in Florida rather than up here in upstate NY, but he seems quitge content. Hopefully he will leave to find warmer environs where the weather starts to get colder here.
