white-tailed eagle haliaeetus albicilla

  1. Grounded

My wife spotted this bird on a path near the observation shelter. She asked if it was an Eagle and without looking through the binoculars I replied that it was either an Eagle or a dog. After I had a look I saw that it was a young White-tailed Eagle. We went to investigate and it flew of into a...

    Eagle head-on

A bit different from my other Eagle shots from Mull. I've been attending a conference in Riga since Thursday so no posts for a few days. It's was great fun but there ere no opportunities for birding unfortunately.

  9. Eagle over the sea

    Eagle over the sea

Taken during the famous White-tailed Eagle boat trip on Mull where they have permission to feed the eagles with fish. Mist and drizzle at the start though it brightened up a bit later. Still an incredible experience though and highly recommended.

    White-tailed Eagle

A young bird but not sure how young.
  11. Eagle in the mist

    Eagle in the mist

Taken from the boat when we arrived at the island of Huvudskr in the Stockholm Archipelago in the early morning. No idea how well this works or even if it works at all. If it hadn't been so misty, I doubt whether we would have got so close though.

    Farewell Eagle!

Thought I'd post just one more.

    No buildings this time. :-)

    Off to the shops...

As most of you have probably figured out I was on the deck of the boat to the mainland when I took these pictures. I've never been so close to an Eagle. The motion of the boat meant that the perspective changed all the time so I do have some without buildings in the background. :-)
  15. The Eagle is at the door

The Eagle is at the door

When I began teaching in Campbeltown, Scotland, in the late 70s some of my colleagues attended Gaelic classes. They soon stopped, complaining that there was too much grammar and not enough conversation paractice. One sentence in the textbook that they particularly criticized was, "The eagle...

    White-tailed Eagle

I did not saw the bird. Unusualy it raised from behind the boat and crossed over us. I hardly had time to point the camera at. This is why the quality of the photo is not very good. But as it is such a beautiful bird and even more as it is carying its prey I decided to post it.

  24. White-tailed Eagle

    White-tailed Eagle

Taken later the same day as the Slow Worms posted yesterday. The first time we visited the bird tower at Kvd we didn't bring the scope and a Caspian Tern and an Arctic Skua flew past and there were young Redstarts playing under the tower so this time we took no chances. It was a beautiful sunny...

    White-tailed eagle flying

A different adult white-tailed eagle. She'd just left the nest. This was also taken during our boat trip with the Stockholm Ornithological Society. We had 15 separate eagle sightings that day though many were distant. When one flew low over the boat the camera went on strike unfortunately.
