    White Wagtail

On 9th of September there were still a few White Wagtails and Spotted Flycatchers around. Mostly young birds. I saw a few wagtails yesterday but that was on the coast though I did see one Spotted Flycatcher last weekend. We're off to Lake Tkern next weekend so it will be very interesting to see...

    White Wagtail

Off to Scotland to see my 96-year-old dad in Scotland on Thursday. We're staying for a few days so I hope to take some pictures unless it rains the whole time.

  14. Can I come in?

    Can I come in?

The White Wagtails had a nest under the roof of the hide at Tkern and one way in was through the hide. This Wagtail was very relaxed about sharing the hide with us but if there were too many people and they were a bit noisy it got a little panicky. It was nice to get so close and the light was...

    Where'd she go?

A second shot from this series. I doubt whether it ended here though.
  22. Be impressed!

    Be impressed!

I was lucky enough to spot this (presumably) courtship behaviour while unsuccessfully chasing Red Kites early in the morning. On the churchyard wall. He wasn't as impressive as he thought as she flew off moments later and he was left alone. I don't imagine he gave up though.
  23. Scram!

    Scram!

I cheated a bit here by moving the Wagtails closer to the Harrier to get all the birds in the same frame. But I have pictures from the same series where the Wagtails are even closer. We had a great time at Lake Tkern. Lots of great birds and plenty of sunshine though there was an icy wind and...

    Wagtail in the meadow

Early posts today as we're off on a 4 day trip to Lake Tkern this afternoon. Hope the weather holds - it's a beautiful place.
  25. First Wagtail of the spring

    First Wagtail of the spring

Our White Wagtails migrate south for the winter and everyone looks forward to their arrival back in the spring. This one was unusually early but that seems to be a trend this year.
