    Whooper or Hoover?

This Whooper spent a good ten minutes scooting around drinking / snapping at the water like this. A great photo oportunity.

    One hundred flights

This shot is to commerarate the 100th shot I have just uploaded onto my website flight gallery!
  5. 1000 up!

    1000 up!

My 1000th photo to be uploaded to my gallery and this was the last photo I took yesterday. Was leaving, walking down the hide when I saw this bird approach. I literally turned, clicked and carried on walking lol such was my hurry to get home. Glad I got him though as the sunlight was really...
  6. Time is running out!

    Time is running out!

Was a gorgeous day here yesterday so thought I would go over to Martinmere. The swans will be gone very soon and with so little good light around it may be one of the last times I get to photograph them this season. Was not very popular either. The sun was lovely but the wind was strong and very...
  7. Llanelli Whooper

    Llanelli Whooper

I've nearly finished the Cyprus pictures. Here's one from my monthly visit to Llanelli WWT. I think the Whoopwer family is resident there year round. Alan

    Right bird wrong location

Went to the WWT reserve at Caerlaverock looking for Barnacle geese and of course also found Whooper swans. However I was not going to be distracted so I gave the swans half an hour then went in search of my real quest!
  11. Feeding Time at Welney

    Feeding Time at Welney

Not quite the chaos at feeding time but a few minutes later. Apparently the male Pochards leave the females bringing up the little ones and fly off to England for their winter holiday. The females don't leave until later and so don't have time to fly so far - they mostly over-winter in Spain...

  15. Whooper surprise!

    Whooper surprise!

Whilst performing my WeBS count of all the waterbirds at my local patch I was surprised to find this magnificent flock of 20 adults and six juveniles. This is the largest flock I have ever seen. A real bonus for a beautiful sunny day.
  16. Fly By

    Fly By

As you can tell from the sky and anyone who live locally this is from this morning at Martin Mere, very dull, very cold, however managed to get this and quite liked it.

    Cygnus cygnus

One of the few times I have seen these birds not actually on or by the water.
  20. Down and clear

    Down and clear

This is a shot everyone tries to get at Martinmere but is difficult to get the bird without so many other birds obstructing the view. This one was one of the first to arrive back for feeding on a relatively empty mere. Sadly the sheer power of these birds coming down is lost in such a small...

    Whooper Swans

Our regular winter visitors have finally arrived

    Golden spells

I love it when the whoopers return enmasse for feeding at the end of the day.

    Twin flight

A close up in flight whereby the wings are reasonably nicely placed.
  24. Silver wings

    Silver wings

For all those of us who have ever wished we could fly!
  25. Coming at ya

    Coming at ya

Some days you go to Martinmere and there are no swans flying around and other days they are all over the place. This day there was plenty of energy in the air and the swans wer restless. I liked the dynamics of this shot, the wings being positioned just right to show off the strength of these...
