I decided to be more adventurous this year for my New Year's Day expedition and drove the 130 miles up to Martin Mere. Very easy as there was no traffic. (160 coming back if you loose the way to the Motorway!)

I had a super time taking pics of whooper swans over the weekend, but these proved a real challenge to get the exposure right with the light behind and I have binned lots that were no good.
As the the day light turned to evening I managed to get some really nice lighting with the sun dropping through the sky, giving these swans a reflection in the icy water.
Well I decided to get out and face the sub zero temperatures and give the new 50D a run out. Not being able to feel my hands most of the time I did grab a few nice shots.
