A medium-sized, green woodpecker with streaked throat and scaly whitish underparts. Green above with yellowish rump, white supercilia and white and black moustache. Crown red in male, blackish in female. Tail dark and plain. Small, dark bill.
Inside the dark rainforest, I was lucky enough to locate it after hearing some drumming sound for a while. Then a shadow flashed across the trees in front of me which enabled me to find it not too far away eventually.
We have an abundance of Downys in the yard, and this one in particular likes to visit the dead limbs on my orange tree. Late fall, he will even peck at my oranges.
I love these birds. Seldom do I get a chance to get close enough to get really good detail, considering my equipment. This guy seemed to be willing to give me a chance, although, he wouldn't let me get as close as I would like.

Now when I go to this wood the birds come along the hedge to me and I drop feed here and there for them, they expect it every time I visit.
I was so close to this Woodpecker, dressed in green I was and blended in very nicely.
I caught this Northern Flicker right before he landed on the tree as he was hopping from branch to branch. If you look close you will see his feet aren't touching the tree! Fun capture!
While visiting my daughter and her family in Colorado, I took my granddaughter on a nature walk. There were several Northern Flickers in the reserve we went to.
Feeding at the Mockingbirds' tree late this afternoon. I don't know where the Mockers were, perhaps taking a break, or one of them would have arrived at the tree and scared him off!
