Don't think I've ever been this close to a Wren before but the light under the lakeside bushes was very poor even att high ISO and the foraging Wren was very fast. I got sharper shots but the bird was obscured by twigs.
There were 5 of these and I spent quite some time watching and photographing them during a walk up the hills at the back of Helensburgh.
We had a marvellous time at Lake Tkern and I got some good pictures. My only regret is that we didn't bother to take any sun tan lotion as my face got burned...
This is a good spot to see Wren's in Helensburgh. They've piled up bits of the old Craigendoran Pier behind a low wall and you can lean on the wall and photograph the Wrens if they decide to show themselves. They pretty much ignored me that day but were only visible for a few minutes.
A pile of timber from the derelict pier to be exact. I'd seen Wrens here before so I had a good look every time I passed but this was the only time any showed up.
Taken from behind a stone wall so I was mostly hidden,
I sat in the picnic area to eat my sandwiches and this
little fella sat and scolded me while I ate
I think he was telling me to hurry up so that he could
clear up any crumbs I might have dropped
There have been a lot of cover versions of this song, but
in my opinion the original, by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates,
is still the best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPu_5m3QFeQ&feature=related
Sadly I couldn't find a version by the Trogs ;)
