    Carolina Wren at feeder

After enjoying the peanut-suet for several minutes on Saturday afternoon, this Wren yielded the feeder to a Red-Bellied Woodpecker. Afterwards, a Downy Woodpecker arrived and ate for a couple of minutes. But the Wren decided he wanted more. He returned and chased the Downy off the feeder (see...

    Wren v. Downy

A frightful shot, I know, but the Carolina Wren (right) chased the female Downy Woodpecker (left) off the feeder just so he could have a few bites!

Warning: This feeder is off limits!

    Wren

One of our most widespread and smallest birds they can be found in most Rural habitats and certainly in Urban areas. They are also very timid and, in my experience, not the easiest of birds to get an image of as they will disappear into cover as soon as they are aware of your presence. Today...

    A garden first!

I saw some movement in the bottom of the hedge and kept clicking in the hope of catching a picture of what was there, as I don't usually see anything in that bit. Suddenly it popped out into view - Wow!! At long, long last! This was about 3 months after rescuing a youngster from the flat...
