Lake Nakuru is a soda-lake but there are a number of freshwater springs feeding into it which are good for waterbirds.

This photo was taken late in the afternoon from a boat. The stork was feeding by stirring the bottom with it's forward foot to suspend invertebrates into the water column where it could pick them off. The bird was at a sheltered shore of the Rufiji River in Selous Game Reserve.

These birds wade through shallows sweeping their open bills from side to side snapping shut on any fish encountered.
