Yep, still around. Taken yesterday, and they are still here this morning.. Gonna be snapping these guys till the last moment before they migrate south. Gonna miss them, they are a beautiful and interesting warbler. Not as skittish as some other warblers.
Thanks for commenting so nicely on my...
This was taken on Sept. 23, but surprisingly, as of yesterday, they are still around. It will be day to day from here on, I expect any time now they will be gone south.
The tragedy of the unturned head. This Yellow Rumped Warbler was on a beautiful perch, but seemed fixated on something beyond. Calling out to it, begging, pleading and threatening, making loud kissy noises were all futile. It didn't turn its head before taking off from the perch. Stupid bird.
These birds always interest me. Not only for their beauty, but also their willingness to take a crack at just about any type of food. No other warbler that I have seen will go after not only insects, but also suet, peanut butter, various types of bird seed, and in this case, peanut pieces. But...
Still got a couple of these birds coming in for the odd peanut butter snack. The only Warbler I have seen so far that is interested in peanut butter and suet.
Although they still come in for a peanut butter snack occasionally, they seem more intent on insects and grubs right now. Probably because they are feeding young.
Their behaviour is starting to be like the chickadees, nut hatches and woodpeckers. They will wait nearby, very close for a warbler, watch me put out some peanut butter, then come and snack on it as soon as I step a prudent distance away.(around 2.5 meters) It's a real pleasure to be able to...
Unlike a lot of warblers, these guys aren't picky eaters. I watched this one not only gobble insects, but seeds, suet, and peanut butter. Fun little bird to watch, and so beautiful.
First one of the season! Unfortunately very late in the afternoon when the whole yard was plunging into twilight, the kind of lighting a superzoom doesn't do well in. Got a few fleeting glances at him and fired off a few desperate shots before he flitted off and disappeared.Hopefully he will...
This Yellow Rumped Warbler is the first warbler I have seen this spring. YRW's are always the first warbler to arrive. Not the greatest quality as this guy was about 20 meters away so full zoom and a big crop on this image. But it's always fun to capture that first image of the season of a...
This beaut landed in a dogwood bush just a few feet away. I tried to get a shot but realized I forgot to put an SD card in my camera! Fortunately after I did the warbler came back and I got a few nice shots of it.
A more common visitor to my yard then the other warblers, but for some reason this summer not seeing many. This is an immature bird I believe. Whether a male or female I can't say.
This guy may be setting up shop in this maple. Last year I had one that would aggressively chase chickadees, sparrows and other warblers out of "his" tree.
