    Zeiss 8x30 B porro questions

I have two questions regarding Zeiss' 8x30 B porro. The first is about the two different versions. Afaik V1, with the air-spaced doublet objectives, was produced from 1954 to 1968. V2, without the air-spaced doublet objectives, was produced from 1968 to the end of production in 1978. Does...

    Age of Zeiss binoculars

Hello - I stumbled on this board when trying to find out more information about my grandad’s binoculars. They have a Carl Zeiss Jena logo with the words ‘multi-coated’ Deltrintem and the serial number 5199611. He was in the navy in WW2 but probably bought them in the 60s when he took up photography.

Two new additions to the Zeiss gang

    1. A 1984 Deltrintem T3M multi-layer coatings. No idea whether these are also 'fully' multi-coated, but allbinos measured 92% transmission. I like the clear sharp image. The sweet spot is smaller than on 8x30 Habichts, but I think I am going to enjoy these quite a lot. (Sadly, the Zeiss yellow...

    Opaque and greenish view

When looking through binoculars from the first quarter of last century and finding the view blocked by opaque and greenish lenses somewhere in the optical train, does that mean the canada-balsam has deteriorated?

    Engravings German WW1 naval binos

Looking through the internet I have come across several old German naval binoculars from WW1 which have arcane formulae engraved on them. These have the form E = n x G. On one of those binoculars, a D.F. 7x50 from 1918 with a FOV of 128 m, n = 7.8 (coincidentally? 1000/128 = 7.8) and on the...

Einblickverhalten/ease of view FL 7x42 vs FL 8x32

Since I do not personally know anyone who has both those binos, or who could lend me an FL 8x32 for comparison, here's a question for anyone who does have both or at least has experience of both: is the ease of view or Einblickverhalten of the Zeiss FL T* 8x32 comparable that of the FL T* 7x42...

Questions about Conquest HD 8x42 binoculars replacement longer eye-cups

I have a pair of Conquest HD 8x42 binoculars. I tried to put the replacement longer eye-cups that Zeiss sent to me on my binoculars, but I cannot completely retract those eye-cups to my binoculars. There are gaps in between. Seeking recommendations/input…

Howdy! Have recently caught the bino bug… Have an NL 8x32 and a Kowa BD 6.5x32. Previously had the Nikon TB ATB 10x25 but those are now “unusable” (age?:; obviously bested by the new glass, especially what now feels like the pinhole/straight-jacket view along with what now feels like a...

Zeiss CHD 8x32 vs Nikon MHG 8x42

Hi folks! These days during the sales these 2 models almost cost the same (CHD just 10€ cheaper). Sourcing Zeiss / Docter / Noblex macro lenses for Turmon and Turmon clones

Hi all - first post here, but I've enjoyed the discussions as a lurker for a while. Deeply impressed by the passion and knowledge on show! I own a Zeiss Jena Turmon folding monocular of which I'm very fond, and I know that Zeiss Jena, and their successors Docter and Noblex, also marketed a...

Oddball Zeiss "Deltrintem" picked up at flea market

Greetings, dear optics experts. This weekend we picked up a 7 x 50 Carl Zeiss Jena binocular, purportedly from the 1940s. Clean, ridiculously sharp glass, but needs to be collimated. However, there are some...irregularities that are puzzling. First, the "Deltrintem" marking on a 7 x 50...

    Question about Zeiss Terra 8x25

Hi everyone, I've been doing research the past weeks about compact binoculars (this forum has been of great help!), and it seems that for my budget the Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 is the best choice. Now I found a good second-hand deal of a hardly used pair, made in Japan. However, since the previous...
