10x25 leica UV vs zeiss victory? (1 Viewer)

Good morning,

After many years I've had the desire for a 10x25 again, and I wear glasses.

I had leica ultravid /zeiss victory (latest model) and swaro cl. I don't take this last one, if it were a Curio 8/10x25 I wouldn't have any doubts but since it doesn't necessarily exist the ballot is between UV 10x25 and Victory 10x25.

I didn't like the diopter adjustment on the Victory, in the sense that if you are very close to zero the mechanism "sucks" to zero making the next adjustment impossible. Plus the eye relief or rather the eyecups are too high. Despite everything, however, a nice to see.

I love the Leica but it has a narrow field of view, but from memory the optical sensations were more satisfactory.

From your experience, does the optical purity, sharpness, colors, contrast etc go to Zeiss or Leica? Who keeps the edges better?

I am curious as to why the FOV is so very important. I tend to use only the center third of the image with binoculars and the only time FOV has been important for my use was when sailing at night and needing to watch for other boats out on the water.

Based on my experience, both the VP and UV have excellent overall image quality. The UV has more saturated colors but I see no real difference in terms of sharpness, contrast or edge performance, which is excellent in both. They are both nearly flat field with almost no edge distortion. The VP has a slightly brighter image at dusk and dawn.

But my experience is the same as yours, the UV is easer with eye placement and has a more relaxed view. After some practice I was able to get better results with less effort with the VP. The difference in FOV and AFOV is substantial but if you don't like the handling of the VP, it's less likely to be an advantage to you.

Good luck with the Quest.

Montereyman,

I'm no expert, but IMO the comparison between the VP and UV 10x25 is a bit different than the usual. I agree to a point in that FOV makes a bigger difference at longer ranges. But the difference in FOV for the two specific bins per the OP -- 315' for the VP versus 274' for the UV -- is much bigger than typically seen between different high end makes of the same format. The VP is sharp to the edge, 90+% , with very little angular distortion whereas the compromises necessary to achieve wider FOV usually result in noticeable fall off or distortion when looking for it.

at the edges. In addition to t results in a noticeably larger AFOV as well even at short distances.
