One day sooner than planned - I made a visit to a local place with a (very) limited collection of binoculars but on the other hand they were very helpful and I could try them extensively .... which I tried (not a specialist) during 40 minutes. Bynoly Sparrow wpr 8x32 Bynoly Sparrow wpr 8x42 Bynolyt Sparrow wpr 10x32 Bynolyt Sparrow wpr 10x42 Kite Toucan 10x42 Kite Petrel 8x42 Kite Petrel 10x42 Kite Lynx HD 8x30 Weather: a little from everything actually: Sunshine with clouds and raining ... Summer in Belgium was canceled this year. Place to test - parking lot with threes at about 80m away. I found the Bynolyt Sparrow range disappointing, eye-cups didn't feel ok, required quit a lot of focusing. When I looked thru them I noticed the images seem to be a bit blurred towards the edges. Not what I am looking for so I basically used this range to have a look at the differences 8/10 and 32/42. One thing is for sure: 10x32 is out - not that easy to keep them still and in some way more difficult to see true. 10x42, 8x42 and 8x32 I found ok but preferred 8x Kite then: At first I only had the Kite Toucan and Kite Petrel to test, I found the Kite Petrel more ergonomic to use (I have small hands bytheway). The toucan had a standard image in the center but towards the edges the image wasn't good anymore, the Petrel`s image was better towards the edge and good in the center of view. Fairly easy to focus and nice handling. To be honest I didn't found much difference in FOV between 10x42 and 8x42, same for light transfer but the sun was shining in between the clouds and the rain. I could see some reflections in the both as well. I ask the guy from the shop if he also had the Petrel in 32 size to test, he went into the back of the store to look for it but it was not available, instead he brought a small 8x30 sample. When handed to me I felt it fitted my hands very well and when I placed it onto my eyes I was surprised, eye -cups were perfect and the image was much better and brighter then with all the others I've tested, they were brighter than the 42 Petrel, Toucan .... Focus is sensitive and fast - the way I like it. When the sun peaked in between the clouds and it stopped raining I think I saw some flares. FOV seemed very large, almost to large to look at, nice contrast and color to my eyes. Does anybody know the transmission of the Kite Lynx ? - as an amateur I found that the best bino`s all have high transmission ... Does anybody ever compared the Lynx to an Ultravid, Meopro, EDG II .... The model was a Kite Lynx HD 8x30 and I found it a nice experience and it will be on my shortlist, definately the best binocular I`ve tested today. Basically I will need to get started for the new short list but now I can add an actual reference to it - I am looking for a set which is equal or better than a Kite Lynx HD 8x30. Decided to go for an 8x magnifications as it handles better in my hands. I don't think a 42mm will perform much better in normal light ... so everything from 30 to 42 is ok although I tend to prefer a smaller set, easy to carry and I can see myself taking it out more often with the result of actually using it more and eventually enjoying it more. Good eye -cups which stay in place, fast focus, very good for use during the day – I don`t mind a set which is not perfect in low lighting but it has to be good on cloudy days as well. Next step - I will try to visit another shop with more types in stock All suggestions are welcome, I don't mind a used or demo and I have increased my budget to a limit of 750 Euro.
