1cy Pied Wagtail, UK (1 Viewer)

Hi Silvio.

It´s not advisable to ID juveniles of Pied and White, since they are identical in this plumage. However when, and if seen together, Pied can be darker on upperparts and flanks.

Hi Jan,

This bird was together with an adult Pied Wagtail and, as White Wagtails are more uncommon in Uk than Pied, I pointed towards Pied...;)

Ciao

It's a good bet that in Britain, it will be a pied, unless there is clear evidence otherwise.... whites are fairly unusual

Hi, i've been watching a "flood" of Whites passing through our reserve over the past couple of days. Of course the other 48 weeks of the year we only get Pied. Today funnily enough, i thought i'd have a really good look at female Pieds. Found a territorial pair, and to cut a long story short your photo looks like a White to me.
Cheers.
