i think water pipit as per above. I thought there was a little hint in the salt water answer but went for 'sky'lark for not in the water nudge nudge wink wink....

Was thinking about Water Pipit, but I'll go Meadow Pipit ...northern birds easily classify as long-distance migrants and are often in coastal habitats as for Delia's question.

strange - when i asked about larks and pipits i already had in mind to ask about richard's next as i know they are a special thing in portugal with reliable wintering sites etc. but i just didn't come in time... :)
