Now 6,742 and 43 in California after three days so my prediction beaten. Hopefully more to come before moving as there seem a few though a relatively small number of likely additions left?

All the best

Four new ones in the (early) morning: Harlequin Duck, Rhinoceros Auklet, Pacific Wren and Chestnut-backed Chickadee.

A five hour drive shortens the birding time today, but he had 1 or 2 targets planned for the afternoon.

Now at 6.747:
http://world.observation.org/arjan.php

The last two days in California were quite slow (no surprise after the great start on the first days there). But the last species was a real blockbuster: Californian Condor! (edit: I meant California Condor of course, wrong retranslation of the German name :)) And he has seen 48 species in total in California and (just) 139 in the USA - I had thought that there would be more possible (but that was probably naive after such a good run in South and Central America and given the fact that it's deepest winter now).

Now off to Japan - I'm looking forward to better knowing the bird species there!

The missing 253 species for the big goal are probably a little too much for the remaining week I'm afraid...

Has anybody heard anything about Arjans travelling to Japan? And did he have some time left to bird there yesterday?

I wish all of you a merry Christmas and Arjan good luck for the remaining week!

+ 20 (and a lone Christmas sushi diner)

Merry Christmas everybody.

I just realised that Christmas Eve (12-24) is missing in the species list. So did he have a strange Christmas above the clouds and bouncing through the time zones? And had no possibility to add species there? But probably it isn't that much problem as you dutch guys celebrate Christmas on 12-25 (and not 12-24 as we Germans do)...

With the end of the year in sight he suffered his first major setback this year: a visa issue. Problem solved, but no new birds today since he'll now arive after dark instead of in the morning.
