Noah was 173 species from 17 days in Mexico. I'm expecting Arjan will travel more? My hunch is that he will be behind by the time that he reaches Vietnam but that will be a nail-biting ride where he can pick up the pace?

All the best

I know both Noah and Arjan count(ed) heard only, but is there anyway of working out what proportion of the total? Are they coded differently? I would guess at 10-20% but that is...a guess.

cheers, alan

Arjan is now (29.11.) at 6.447 species:
http://world.observation.org/arjan.php

He has seen 446 species so far in November and has one more day to go.

He presumably needs around 540 species in December to reach 7.000, that will sure be a close run. He has exceeded that monthly rate just in five of eleven months yet. But he will have an change in continents at the very end that will help in raising the final rate...

It will be very tense for him - and us (!) - in the last days of December I suppose! Good luck, Arjan!

Arjan has already seen 109 species in seven days Mexico - so he will presumably end far beyond the prediction of 150 species after eight more days there...

He may surprise me, but he did a pelagic and is adding more and more US birds, so less potential over there. I also feel he is planning a bit too much time in the US. He probably needs to, in order to cover the whole country and including all the travel time, but it will lower his average.

It's interesting to me since I think I was one of the first to question if 7K was possible (most dismissed it at the time) that it now seems to be the target!

Even if Arjan doesn't quite make it, it is certainly a realistic target using the two previous attempts as a template for an even sharper itinerary.
