Jake,
Why an Atlas subspecies? Much more likely one of the about 25 races inhabiting North America. Probably one of the races from the West Coast of U.S. brought in by hand and let loose.

Jake,
I just went back and relooked at it. You could be right. I found one of Alain Fosse's photos of Eremophila alpestris atlas in my files and it sure looks close! Presumptious of me and I should have looked closer.

edit: there is an Atlas race of Shore Lark
which has a yellow throat as opposed to Temminck's (which I suggested minutes ago)

description of locality can be found here:

'mâle atlas, 18 mars 2004, Oukaïmeden, 2 670 m'
'plateau de Tizerag au pied de l'Oukaïmeden, Maroc, ca 31° 12' N, 007° 52' W'

Interesting - the black eye mask just joins the black breast band, but only just, by a narrow strip. Intermediate between Scandinavian flava (black areas don't join) and Balkan balcanica (black joins solidly)
