Watch your hold baggage weight with Easyjet. I've travelled with them dozens of times and on the odd occasion when my hold baggage has gone a kilo or two (combined weight, mine and my wife's bags) over on the way back, they've never bothered. I once saw a bloke in the queue in front of me get done and he had to pay 4 euros a kilo over, but that was a few years ago, and he was well over his limit. I'd come to the conclusion that they were applyong an unofficial tolerance to the 20kg per person limit, and based on the experiences of the past when our heaviest weight was 42.5 kg (against a limit of 40 kg for the two of us) and they let it go without comment, I'd guessed that it was about 10% tolerance. That no longer seens to apply. I inadvertently went over our combined limit by 2kg last month when we returned from Malaga. I thought that based on past experience thet it would be OK, although I'd really meant not to exceed it (I like to be on the safe side). I was wrong and get pulled for the extra 2kg. We had to pay an excess and they haven't half pushed the price up, from 4 euros about 4 years ago, the rate is now 12 euros a kilo and I had to pay it. The crazy thing is that the check-in attendant said that if we didn't want to pay it we could simply transfer 2kg of weight from the cases to our hand baggage, so the plane wouldn't have been any lighter in any case. Unfortunately this wasn't really possible - our hand luggage was pretty full aready with optics and stuff and there simply wasn't room for almost 5lbs of clothing. 24 euros poorer I'm ordering a set of lightweight portable baggage scales. I'll make sure the bandits don't get another cent of excess off me when I go away later in the year.
