6/13/09 - Leeward Kohala, Luahine Gulch

Saturday was a Kohala Watershed Partnership volunteer day, planting koaia around Luahine Gulch in the forest restoration corridor on leeward Kohala. We also watered numerous previous plantings and removed passiflora vines. Little exploration, though. This was at the very lower end of the remnant forest in the gulches. Birds were limited to Erckel's francolin (several), wild turkey (one), Japanese white-eye, house finch, sky lark, and one or two 'amakihi.
