Thanks very much to Tim and Pete for drawing my attention to this I have read through the links about AF calibration and a few days ago spent an afternoon photographing various inanimate objects bits of paper and charts in my garden. It’s a good job it’s a quite time of year for birds!! I have adjusted settings on my 7D which I certainly feel was front focusing with both my telephotos, As I suspected there was less of a problem with my MKIII which in fact I left as it was since I had never noticed a problem with that before, and I always look at all my images at 100% (actual pixels), it seems likely that my lenses are ok. Or my MKIII was compensating for any minor issues with them, and that the 7d did need a minor adjustment. Similarly to other comments, I thing some of the images I have got from the 7D of static birds are perfectly fine thought not up to MKIII standard (Given the difference in price and sensor size, I guess I should not expect them to be) but birds in flight seem very hit and miss. The cameras appears to be performing brilliantly, locking onto flying birds and staying locked in situations where I wonder if the MKIII would fail, and better than my 40D was ever able to manage, BUT the end results when viewing at 100% at home are often disappointing, and often do not look as sharp as I expected they would, having viewed them on the back of the camera. I don’t know why the same image would look different in different programs (unless it’s an Adobe sRGB v RGB issue) as has also been mentioned in this thread. But I am used to having a pretty good idea from the camera monitor screen, what I am going to see on the PC at home. Don’t get me wrong, I have been back to the Terns I visited before and have some flight shots I am happy with that look great at say 50% and one or two that are ok at 100%, maybe I need to tweak settings and get used the camera a little more, but there does seem a lot of inconsistency, with sharp focus and flight shots or maybe I am just expecting to see what I see when I look at a MKIII image when its never going to happen! Thanks for all the help.
