I am myopic. I believe my prescription is minus 6 or 7ish. The lenses are quite thick despite paying extra to have thinner ones than standard. My right eye is considerably worse than the left. The outside edge of the right lens is about 7mm thick but the wide rectangular shape doesn't help to keep them thin. My glasses are roughly rectangular, 26mm high and 46mm across. The front of the lenses sit a few mm forward of my eyebrows. The bridge of the glasses touches the bridge of my nose so I can't push them any closer to my face. I could probably find some closer fitting glasses if they had smaller lenses that could sit behind my brows. Right in my eye socket. The bridge would have to project forward to go around my nose rather than straight across it. As a rough general rule I would say that I need about 18mm of eyerelief. I don't take too much notice of specification e/r measurements though. I firmly believe that you've got to try them for size to find out if they fit your face. It's the same with clothes, one brands 36'' waist is another brands 34''. I also have trouble finding bins with the right e/r even when I'm wearing contacts (which I bought specifically to broaden my bino horizons). I have decided that contacts are not as great as first I thought. They dry out in car/shop air con, they are uncomfortable when it's windy. When conditions are good and I can forget their in there their great but most of the time I stick to wearing glasses. Hence the continuing quest for perfect bespectacled eyerelief. I have to say the best e/r i have found so far is on the cheaper porros. Both the Bushnell Legend 8x42s and the Minolta Activa 7x35s are great on the e/e front. I can see right to the edge of the view of both. If the Minoltas don't stiffen up too much in the cold then I may not need 7x roofs for winter. here's hoping!
