Peanuts in my garden very rarely get touched even tho i have them in a few locations.Everything seems to go for the sunflower hearts and nyjer seed.

Yep - same here, the birds are remarkably disinterested in the peanut feeder...now the one with the suet pellets... the Robins love that.

Two newbies today (well, first time I've seen them anyway) - a collared dove and a coal tit (95% certain of the latter, but he doesn't stay long off for me to get a proper look at him).

Meanwhile the squirrels have successfully dismantled the stainless steel nut feeder twice in the last 12 hours resulting in a Vegas style fruit machine payout of nuts onto the ground, which I've had to tidy up. Mind you, the squirrels beat me to it, and I now have about 100 new burial sites for fallen nuts in my garden - good job there's no grass otherwise I'd be paying the price later. Tidy at burying them, not tidy at digging them up again.

I found this little one on the garden path. There were no obvious signs of injury, but I fear the neck was broken.
I think it's a young woodpecker, as there is still some red on the head.

I just hope death came swiftly....................

Although we haven't got many different species visiting, I'm prety happy to see the following who are resident:

Blackbird
Wood Pigeon
Collared Dove
House Sparrow
Blue Tit
Dunnock
Robin
Song Thrush

I'm happy enough - I keep them fed and watered... and they keep me entertained - it's a great arrangement and we all benefit!

:)

Neil.

An addition today - first time we've had a Magpie pay us a visit!

Hi Joanne,
You've got loads of goodies there - can't help but think you've missed some off though - no other waders?
Common gull?
And I think you've already got 83 there (?)
I could have miscounted but I think you're not doing yourself justice there.
What quality you have anyway! How many people can claim two harriers & Nightjar & Woodlark I wonder?

Not new, but had Curlew & Reed bunt this am. Goldcrest singing next to juv Greater 'pecker too.

Hi H

Maybe I have miscounted but only by only 1 I think....it's a great location actually but the only water is a smallish stream....hence the lack of waders, about 100 yards away. If I was better at IDing them in flight, I might have a few flyovers....hope to do better next winter. I think I probably forgot common gull. Harriers aren't very regular, only seen them a handfull of times here and the woodlark was only one that hung around for a few days at the end of one summer. The nightjar was only one year but heard regular churring that summer from the edge of a setaside field where it meets a small copse.

80) Common Gull*

Hi again, Joanne,
You're correct - maths never was my strong point!
Yes, despite lack of water I have done well for waders - I notice some don't count flyovers - my list is absolutely everything seen & heard from & in the garden - which includes a few just passing. (It would be a bit difficult to get much that only landed in the garden - and where would you stop counting - stuff not directly overhead? - stuff above tree height? - so I just count everything from here.)
Lesser black-back? (Every day here)

I agree on counting everything that you see from the garden....makes it so much more interesting!! JT counts everything seen from her garden so I think we should too and her garden list is, I dunno, how many hundred!?;)

Lots of toing & froing of Sparrowhawks carrying prey.

Hi June

I am so sorry what a sad picture. Nature is cruel at times, Like you say you hope that it did not suffer its fate whatever it was

I can add dunnocks to my list. I have a pair who visit lots of times a day, nibbling seed on the ground. I love the way they hop around, rather than fly. One came in for a sunbathe yesterday afternoon which was lovely to see.

I'm hoping they've nested (very late, admittedly, so I doubt it) in the shrubbery next to the path which runs alongside my garden and the woods, and that they'll bring some little uns into the garden sometime soon.

They are brave little fellas - no other wildlife seems to bother them at all, even a clumsy fella like me.

My wish was granted within about an hour of posting my last message.

I had the privilege of being able to see a parent feeding two youngsters whilst they were sat on my gate. Made my day.

That and seeing the first wonky flights of three magpie fledglings in Bulwell town centre, guided by a parent - amazing scenes, which most shoppers were completely oblivious to.

First thing this morning I have seen our new resident Great Spotted Woodpecker sitting on our Peanut Feeder :-O

I am over the moon as we have live here for over a year and no sign of one until now.

Another one to add to the list

We have had glimpses of Long Tail tits picking up nest material from our lawn, and a Green Woodpecker a couple of times but only briefly.

Still great to see. :-O
