Not too far; perhaps a mile or so (I'm not very good with distances). You could also try Abbey Wood and get a taxi (I think there are taxis at Abbey Wood Station) to the Thamesview Golf Centre (see Rich's note earlier). There are buses which go some of the way but I'm not sure which ones they are.

229 from Abbey Wood, I'm planning to try. Any news this morning?
 
I might go along to look for it either tomorrow or the next day, but i would take a train. Is it quicker to walk from Belvedere or Abby wood ?

Took the bus from Abbey Wood. Fair walk, but the heat did not help. Very smart bird. Thank you to the finder for putting out news:t:
 
Yes indeed. Interesting that last October's, at Dawlish Warren, was also found by someone who (unless I'm misrepresenting him) didn't know what he was looking at but knew it was different to the B-H Gulls around (and then correctly identified it from his field guide).
