But that includes all of us!
Where is the paragon who has never jumped to a conclusion based on a half second glimpse?
Or are you suggesting we all go back to shotgun birding to improve our credibility?

There's a thought - one echoed by Pete Dunne, no less, in one of his books: "In God we trust - anyone else had better produce the specimen". (Motto of "the SVAT" - "Species Verification Attack Team")

Technically safer alternative -- live view recording mandatory for all birder binoculars.
Think of the material generated for the Bird ID Q&A thread

I braved the rain and went birding on Sunday (in the sense that driving round in the comfort of your car looking at birds without getting wet is 'braving the rain' :) ).

This is what I saw - and to be fair I did get out of the car a bit at the end. :)

70. Oystercatcher (2 at Maxey)
71. Shelduck (On Deeping High Bank and at Maxey)
72. Golden Plover (flyover flock near A15)
73. Stonechat (at Maxey)
74. Something else beginning with S (isn't it great how I remember the things I told myself to help myself remember but not the thing it was supposed to help me remember).

And then today I was inspired by the sunshine to take a little lunchtime stroll down by the river and chanced upon not 1 but 3:

75. Green Woodpecker

Very nice, I've never seen 3 together before.

Today being Mother's Day we had the annual 'Children have to come birding with mummy and not utter a word of complaint because it's Mother's Day deal'. They weren't too good at this the first few years we tried it but to be fair they are really getting the hang these days. Although they did stay in the car a lot. And there was bribery with chocolate, chips and cake.

My adopted child, who appears to have largely given up birding for alcohol these days (;) ) also came along.

Our first stop was Sheringham where I found a Glaucous Gull on top of a post. If only William hadn't already told me there was one at Sheringham, I could have had a self-found. ;)

76. Glaucous Gull
77. Turnstone
78. Lesser Black-Backed Gull

On to Cley for the confiding bunch of:
79. Snow Buntings
80. Brent Geese (there weren't many geese about anywhere - have they celebrated today's warmer temperatures by all going home?)

2 very nice roadside views of:
81. Barn Owl

A late afternoon stroll at Titchwell - I love it there at that time of day - most of the Sunday birders had gone home and we had the place almost to ourselves with the beautiful evening light.
81. Slavonian Grebe (kindly shown to me in his scope by a Titchwell seawatcher)
82. Sanderling
83. Curlew
84. Bar-tailed Godwit
85. Avocet
86. Pintail

Everywhere I go on my bike in the last few days:

88. Chiffchaff

Oh, and I think there might have been a few birdies in Scotland too. If only I could remember what any of them were. And I only had a tiny sip of the whisky.
