Hello everyone. I need your opinion on this bird, is this the recently split European Red-rumped Swallow? Insignificant streaking below, 'potentially' complete hindneck collar, less rufous nape sides and relatively paler underparts (as compared to the Eastern Red-rumped Swallow). I would appreciate your response on this bird. It would be conclusively a national first documented record of this expected species if confirmed.

Date & Location:
Jutial, Gilgit, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan (15 June 2015)

I can't help with your bird, but Birds of the World online says both in words and on its map for the species that European Red-rumped breeds in Pakistan and the map shows specifically the area you are in.

Birds of the World: Breeds across southwestern and southern Europe (Iberian Peninsula, Mediterranean countries) and North Africa east to southern Asia Minor, the Levant (south to Israel), Arabian Peninsula, northern Somalia (16), western and southern Iran, Pakistan, northwestern India (Ladakh) and Tien Shan. Winters across northern sub-Saharan Africa, but nonbreeding range is poorly known.

Indeed. The recent taxonomic changes made it clear. Lack of documentation is the main reason why I was interested to know more on this species 'confirmed' occurrence in Pakistan. The BoW maps, however, does not include Pakistan for the Easter Red-rumped Swallow, which is a pretty common species in the country. Their maps are good but not always reliable. They need to update it.
