abandoned robin nest? (1 Viewer)

Hello,
(I hope I'm posting this in the right place) Some robins built a nest in a pinecone wreath on my porch. They laid 4 eggs which hatched about 2 weeks ago. However one hatched later than the others. Today 3 of the babies left the nest but the 4th is smaller and is still in the nest. There have been no parents around. I know the parents will take care of the other babies but will they return to the nest and feed this last fledging? If they won't return what should I do? Thank you!

Your best bet is to find a local wildlife rehabber to take the young bird to. It appears that the parent birds will not be back. Is it possible that another bird laid an egg in that nest? If you can't find a rehabber then perhaps call a local vet to see if they have a number for a rehabber near you.

I thought it might be another bird too but all 4 eggs were blue. I will look for a rehabber. Thank you so much. I may not be able to get the bird in until later today or tomorrow. How long will the bird be able to survive without it's parents?

Welcome to Birdforum.

If the last fledging isn't fed, it won't survive I'm afraid.

I’m happy to say that the baby robin left the nest. It flew into a neighbors yard where it’s parents came and fed it. Thank you all for the advice.

Hi parapig and a warm welcome from me too.

That really is great news to hear. I'm so pleased it's all turned out OK.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
