After Kite Lynx 8x30 : Swarovski Pure NL 8x32 or 10x32? (2 Viewers)

Hi to all,

Long time reader but first time poster…

I turned 60 last week and my wife offered me to gift me with a new pair of binoculars.

I have a few pairs but my main binoculars is a Kite Lynx 8x30

I stopped my choice on the Swaro Pure NL 32 but I'm still hesitating between 8x and 10x.

For those of you who tried or have the forehead rest, does it help to stabilize the image a lot?

I read about the glare problem of the Swaro but coming from the Kite, I guess it shouldn’t be a problem for me since I didn’t had a problem with the Kite which have the reputation to have the same problem…

Thanks!

I have owned both NL 32s and still have the 8X32. I found eye positioning easier with the 8, and overall viewing comfort is excellent with my eyeglasses. I also found the wider field of view of the 8 to feel more immersive. But ultimately it really depends on where you observe as to whether the 10 or the 8 is a better fit. Both are fantastic optically.

I did find the forehead rest to be very helpful with the 10X32 both for limiting shake and for getting proper eye position quickly to an avoid blackouts.

We have a 8x32 NL - its a great optic. We tried the 10x32 and did not like it as much, we found the eye box to be more finicky for us and we saw no more detail. The smaller fov of the 10x was also noticeable to us. So we stuck with the 8x and have no regrets.

You won't go wrong with any one of them. It entirely depends on your personal preference. Do you find the reach of your current x8 binoculars not sufficient? Otherwise, NL 8x32 would be the safer option as you got used to the x8 power and the larger FOV.

NL will definitely be a good upgrade to your current binoculars. I have NL 8x42 and 10x32 however, as @Maljunulo mentioned mag difference is not as significant between both pairs. Definitely, you will be able to see a little more details with FHR even with x8 power NL compared to the current binoculars. Normally I use the FHR with 8x42 as well. Currently, I am using NL 10x32 more due to the ease of handling and the bit more reach. I don't find it dull or the FOV is limited.

Welcome to the forum, @Petyot :)
I am pretty sure you must have checked this, but just in case. If you are coming from the Kyte Lynx 8x30 and are used to what is one of the lightest and more compact quality 8x30, jumping to one of the largest and heaviest 8x32 I think is something to consider (again, this is something you've probably done, but just in case). From 117 mm you jump to 144 and from 495 g you go to 640 g. To put it in context, 117 mm and 640 g are the exact dimensions of a Zeiss SFL 8x40. I don't know how important size and weight are to you (I think they probably play a role, given your current choice). Again, not wanting to pester you, just trying to help :)

Am I "used to it"? I guess...

I know that the Swarovski are heavier and bigger than the Kite but I didn't find binoculars with the quality of the Swarovski but with the weight of the Kite.

If you have other suggestions than the Swarovski, I am open to it. I would like those suggestion to be in the top 3 (Zeiss, Leica or Swarovski).

I suppose, but maybe I am wrong, that I have to climb the quality ladder a lot to see some differences with my Kite.

@Petyot The obvious answer most would agree with is the 8x30 Zeiss SFL, the same form factor of the Kite Lynx, but even lighter and with superior optics (and way cheaper than the Swaro). I don't know how easy it is, but if you could check the SFL and the NL, I'm sure that would give you some food for thought :)

We have the FRP (I think that's the acronym Swaro use for it). We never use it. I don't like using it at all; and my partner said that they thought it helped but they have never used it other than after we first got it and tried it out.

If you share binoculars, I found that it makes it that much harder as you have to adjust it in/out to each person, and that takes a surprisingly long amount of time. But - its an easy item to buy and try from a store that has a good return policy (B&H, Scheel's, etc).

Try the NL 10x32 with and without forehead rest because you are used with the 8x configuration from the Kite...

For my person, the shape of the NL32 is unlike all other trad binocular form factors, and it fits my hand very well. As to the FRP, I have three FRP units and would not be caught out without them, just part of the binocular for me. At the same time, the FRP is no magical device that promotes huge gains in stability. The NL 8x32 is my preferred first use binocular, but, like they say on BirdForum, you have to try them...

After trying different models, I chose the Swarovski Pure NL 10x32.

I tried the Victory SF 10x32. I liked them very much but I couldn’t justify the extra 1000$ vs the Pure NL

I also tried the Zeiss SFL 10x30 but they were not in the same league in my opinion

Before trying them, I was almost sure to go with the 8x but I liked the 10x more in every model that I tried

And you will not find that delicious burnt orange color in any other binoculars 😍 Try the forehead rest if possible for the better stability.

Hi, I ordered the forehead rest on Amazon a few days ago (for the possibility to return the product easily).

I received it today. It helps ME with stability and, even if I have tried it only for a few minutes, I can see that it will help to limit the fatigue of holding the 640g of the NL 10x32 for a longer period of time.

I will keep it! 👍🏻

I am curious. Is your 640g without any accesoires? I think Swarovski states this a bit optimistically. Mine is 660g without accesoires.

Enjoy your NL 10x32 in good health! Burnt orange... I have the green one, but the orange one looks good too.

640g is the weight in the spec...

With the forehead rest installed and the swiverl attachement knobs it is at 696g (whithout the strap)
