[QUOTE="ceasar, post: 3205833, member: 26155"] Dave, Your binocular has to be an old one to have a serial number that low (70003x). It must have come from the 1st batch sent to Australia. 8x32 is a popular format and it might have undergone a lot of handling while at the dealers. It should go without saying that many more 8x32s are sold than 10x32s. The 10x32 EDG II sent to me last summer to replace my 4 year old 10x32 EDG I has SN 90043x. I note that Bruce's 3 year old 8x32 EDG II has a SN of 70043X. Nikon America told me they had to get mine from Japan because they had none in stock in California so it must have been of recent manufacture. There are no indentations yet from the lens cap tethers on the binocular and they have been on it since I received it. I suggest you contact Nikon about the possibility of getting it replaced with one more recently made. I think that is a reasonable request in your case. Bob PS: About the rubber rings covering the end of the objective tubes: Mine have a little bit of "give" to them. They are much thinner than the ones that were on the EDG I which came in handy because I dropped that binocular on my kitchen floor twice and it landed on those rubber rings and no damage happened to it.
