Over the past few weeks it's been great to watch via our bird box camera the male and female blue tits build the nest and lay nine eggs, the eggs hatched and five chicks survived. Mum and Dad busy feeding and things going great, today all chicks are dead with no mum and dad to be seen, why? We have had chicks born and fledge (another 5) in 2014 but no nesting blue tits last year so we were delighted they were doing so well, now all are dead. I understand I must leave the box till the end of July before clearing it out. The box is high up under the eves on a north facing wall and round the back of the bungalow in a secluded spot, some would say ideal. One point to note is we had a roosting blue tit almost all winter, is it possible this bird killed all the chicks? Any advice would be welcomed. Colin.
