Thanks Pam. Have been keeping an eye out but haven't seen any - possible they've moved quite a way downstream but will keep looking. Took another wander along the river late afternoon. Walked around the edge of the water-meadow (through a stream... splash! :-O) and up at Springfield Lock spotted four Little Grebes, then turned back along the river under the bridge and at a group of tall bushes saw a Robin and something bright in the depths of the bushes which looked like a fishing lure but turned out to be a Kingfisher! I left it in peace and walked on along the river, spotting the Kestrel up on the power lines where I'd seen one before and right where I'd seen one hunting the other day so likely to be resident here. Just past there I heard a high 'peep' and then saw another kingfisher perched down low on the riverbank which then flew up to chase two more Kingfishers flying downstream, then the three banked around and headed back upstream with one breaking off to hide amongst the riverside weeds again! :eek!: :t: I walked on towards Barnes Mill and as I approached the lock I saw another group of Little Grebes, at least eight that I could see. I crossed the river at the lock gates and strolled a way downstream, but the sun had set by now and it was starting to get dark so after a good look through my binoculars at all the surrounding fields just in case there were any Barn Owls around (nope, a lot of Mallards flying downstream though!) I headed back, crossing back over the river and across the meadow. At the point where I turned away from the river though I paused and saw at least three bats flying back and forth above the river, so watched those for a little while before making my way home. Little Grebes, Kestrel, multiple Kingfishers and Bats... not a bad little walk! :king:
