I walked along the river the short distance to Asda yesterday afternoon and it was fairly quiet but I did see three Goosanders at Barnes Mill, a few Little Grebes fishing at the lock, some Cormorants flying over, a pair of Green Woodpeckers feeding near the horse paddocks, around 10 Redwings sitting high in the willows along the towpath, a juvenile Mute Swan and coming back across the Meads I saw a big flock of small birds flying up from the grass and swirling around. Not sure what species, I really could not tell against the overcast sky but I'm guessing they were Meadow Pipits, which I've seen flocking here recently. Certainly was a lovely sight! Also found a muddy slide on a very steep section of riverbank. Not sure what made it but I have a suspicion that it is an Otter slide, it seemed larger than I'd imagine one made by a Mink would be but I know far too little about either animal to say. We have both on the river though and I've seen Mink within half a mile of there.
