I have a feeling I'll regret starting this thread, but hey, it's only the Internet.|:d| It seems to me that Pigeons are much maligned. I mean they are a bird, like other birds. They are much smarter than people seem to think they are, like other birds. I seem to recall that Pigeons saved 1000s of lives during both World Wars (carrying messages and such). So you'd think they would be respected as a species. Pigeons are probably the first bird that a child will see, and hear. Everybody knows what a Pigeon looks like; most know what they sound like. They are trusting of Humans, they are easy to hand feed (remember Trafalgar Square before the Pigeons started killing tourists with disease?;)). Above all they are supreme survivors, no matter what we throw at them (Hawks, Poison, Netting to stop roosting, etc) they seem to take it in their stride. One more thing, many Pigeons are actually quite pleasing to look at. If you look at them through binoculars you'll see iridescent colours. They are by no means dull, in colour. I've attached 2 pictures of a recent visitor to my garden (a bit blurry due to a smudged part of the window I took the picture through). I think it looks almost as if the feathers have been painted on. So why do so many people seem to hate Pigeons?
