It's not like I get any option but to feed the pigeons. :C Not that I mind, even if they do cost me a fortune in extra seed. (I can cope with about a fiver a month.) Usually it's Wood Pigeons or Collared Doves but the occasional feral one has started commuting from Blackpool centre. The other birds do OK because there are plenty of more inaccessible feeders to go at if the Pigeons turn up on the tabletop one. The Chaffinches and Dunnocks like picking up their leavings so it serves a purpose. I seesaw from a love/hate relationship with them. One thing's for certain, they've had the intelligence to exploit us rigid for providing a gift habitat more than any other birds. Even Crows, Gulls and Sparrows don't take advantage of our wasteful ways quite so well. How can you denigrate a bird that adapted to live on cliffs and eat an opprtunistic diet when they live on the cliffs we provide via buildings and eat the opportunistic diet we so prolifically throw onto the ground for them via waste and intentional feeding? It'd be like giving a kid the keys to the sweet shop and being angry with them when they tuck in. I just hold out hope that I'm steadily baiting a harmless Sparrowhawk/Peregrine trap and the whole circle of life will happen outside my window as I haven't the heart to play God or become top predator myself... :scribe:
