those are really nice pics terry,love the kingfisher,when you take more pics post them here I would like to see them,i was out today in very cloudy weather, I retreated to a hide just to look for birds,a family of tree sparrows landed in a shady area, first opportunity I have had to photograph youngsters, between the cloudy weather the shady area and photographing through glass I could not get a decent shutter speed, I switched the camera to video mode took a 15 sec vid then grabbed a still, it will do until I get a chance of a proper shot

very windy here at the moment, took loads of pics yesterday but only a handful were in focus due to me not being able to hold the camera steady,a small dor beetle crossed my path giving me an opportunity to get some pics,the ones on the ground were taken while lying on the ground,the pic of the beetle in my hand shows some sort of feeler protruding from its right leg ,I never noticed this until I looked at my pic

below is a link to a hd video of a distant buzzard I seen yesterday,the video is 25 secs long,at 11 secs it zooms out to show the distance, looking at the original video on my computer I was surprised how much detail the camera picked up at this distance,this was a handheld video in crap lighting, the accompanying pic is a still from the video,you can see the light reflected in the buzzards eye/its nostrils and all its markings,if the bird was ringed im sure the number would be recognisable

Really? These were taken with the SX50 roughly at max zoom an the 2x teleconverter. The first is on an overcast day. The second is a sunny day but under significant foliage. The third is pretty much were I took the photos and the bird is in the tree on the left.
This bird has been showing up in the same tree multiple days. It's nice to be right in my back yard.

Sorry for butting in again but it's interesting that the hawk showed up again only 75 minutes after I posted above. This is also SX50 max optical and the 2x teleconverter. I've done nothing to it but shrink the size. With some contrast and brightness and a little sharpening it could be improved a lot. But not bad at all fresh from the camera.
This photo is from significantly farther away than my post above. It's in the center of the second photo deep in the tree behind my garage. I love just stepping out of the basement and have a hawk just fly in and I can take a photo not having even moved a step after shutting the door.

Have had my first issue with this camera today. One minute it was working fine then when I went to use it again it couldn't auto-focus on anything at all at the far end of the zoom...then 'Lens Error' appeared and the camera automatically shut itself down. Turned on again and it did the same...no dampness or dust around, manual focus made no difference. Then I tried it again after about 2hrs and it's working fine.....which is annoying as I'd rather it was still 'erroring' as an intermittent fault is much more problematic!! 
Have contacted Canon as the warranty is up in a couple of weeks so will wait for their reply.

hope you get your issue with your camera sorted adam,how many pics have you taken ?,I usually get out just once a week and my pic numbers are up to 2722,im not sure if that's an accurate way of telling how many pics I have taken,below is a record shot of a very distant peregrine I seen today
