Reading Arthur's posts helps expand my vocabulary. This is the second time in a week that I had to look up a word he used in one of his posts (even though I could sorta figure out the meaning from the context). vituperative = marked by harsh, spoken, or written abuse; abusive, often with ranting or railing. (now I have to learn how to pronounce it) I find this same vituperative behavior on other forums where people are reviewing/discussing consumer products, be they cars, stereo equipment, power tools or even movies. Opinions differ, sometimes vehemently (I had "V" words open in the dictionary so I thought I'd throw in a 10-dollar "V" word, too.) ;) To some people, birdwatching is considered a "sissy" hobby for a man. I was watching some hawks with my binoculars at the edge of a cliff near the end of the block when some young guys passed in a convertible and yelled out: GEEK FREAK! Imagine if I had been wearing my Birdman outfit? I would have gotten tarred and feathered. :smoke: I think the reason people sometimes become vituperative (I can't find the pronunciation so I'm going with "pugnacious") is that they are bored out of their skulls due to the meaningless/tedious/boring work they do, so they pick a fight to keep from nodding off. :cat: <B>
