We can always try! Let's articulate..
I've been active on the forum for about 5 years.
I also lurked for awhile, and then read through about 10 years of posts. One character stood out because he consistently played dumb to get attention, intentionally irritated other folks, and bought and sold binoculars in the manner of a used car salesman. The forum was more or less a vehicle for him to brag about and advertise his current product, then sell it, to fund his next product, whether on this forum or elsewhere. His pronouncements and opinions were all over the map, because each binocular had its own sometimes contradictory qualities with one(s) he'd already sold. So nothing he said had much value because it was primarily in the service of advertising/bragging about something he was soon going to sell. He apparently had very little field experience using his binoculars to provide much insight based on actual use, preferring instead to quote from the spec sheets, or provide links to reviews that bolstered the stature of his product. He did engage in civil behavior from time to time, but it, unfortunately, has always proven to be temporary.
That's my take on what's been going on for well over a decade ;-)
