Tape? What about your error message? No lens?
I tried to over come the error by adding a short MF macro extension tube between Camera and converter - this works great as the Camera can no longer see the tc but the macro ext tube is very poor quality and the locking pin does not lock that great, trouble is MF extension tubes for Canon EOS are few and far between. If I use tape I am concerned about the tape coming off and getting on the mirror/shutter mechanism of the Camera.

I must have got over a hundred sharp(ish) shots this morning in the Estuary. Here are the first four that I have processed. All shot with a 1.4x tc and the SW80ED on a 7D camera. Amazing what a difference 900mm gives you in an estuary environment compared with say 400mm.
Superb photos, Roy. The scope is delivering gret results.

Pochards taking off

While waiting (in vain ) for the Sea Eagles to make an appearance I practiced capturing some take-off sequences.

I mentioned it before but I've had a thin strip of masking tape on the pins on my Kenko Pro 1.4X and the same bit has been on there for over 12 months. I used to keep a couple of spare strips stuck to the TC lens cap but I've never needed to use them. The masking tape doesn't fall off or ever look like it will fall off but it can start to look a bit worn and then I just replace it. It's better to be concerned though, a bit of tape going into my 450D body is not as bad as going into a 7D, my 450D is well past its use by date lol |=)|

Nice series of shots posted with the TC btw.

Paul.

Paul.
I have just remembered that I have a old EOS film camera so I will try a dummy run on that Paul. I have used a taped tc many hundreds of times in the past and must admit that the tape has never moved or come unstuck but that was always between the tc and a lens so no harm would have come if it did.
I guess with this you need to cover all the pins on the converter. Interesting that you use masking tape as I have always used Sello tape, much the same I suppose.

Sunflower feast part 2

The Bramblings and Greenfiches were all gone this weekend, Goldfinches and Magpies had claimed the sunflower field. It was really cold and quite windy.

Good shot on the magpie there. I find them pretty difficult to photograph because it's hard to bring out detail on the head, but light fell nicely on that one.

Thanks Oskar,
I had to resort to some judicious use of HDR to restore the virtually washed out white feathering while preserving the details in the deep shadows. I use to underexpose magpies and other members of crow family at least -1 EV but forgot this time. (I should blame the biting chill I suppose).

Snow is falling quite heavily here now, I wonder when the bullfinches will appear for feeding.

A few more from the Estuary, all with a 1.4x tc attached. First shot a ISO 400 and the other three at ISO 800.

Nice, Oskar. K-5? ISO?
Thanks! K-5, ISO 1000 if I recall correctly. IS is always disabled now, I mostly seem to get a little soft and fuzzy detail with it enabled, have noticed it mostly with the new video head.

Nice Roy! How close are you able to get to those shore birds?
