ATX 85/Gitzo combo safety (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

I have a ATX 85 mounted to Gitzo GHF2W Fluid Tripod Head / GT2545T Series 2 Traveler (see attached photo for set-up). I am finding that neither the Gitzo plate to scope foot and Gitzo plate to Gitzo head are 100% secure and have a tendency to come loose over time after tightening.

Are there any better options or recommendations anyone has that would allow the scope to be more securely locked in place to the head? l want to be able to not worry about checking if the scope is coming lose when I am hiking and carrying the set-up.

Thanks in advance.

From the pic I believe that foot allows for the scope to be mounted on the head without the plate. Does the foot have "AS" printed on the bottom?

Not sure why the plate is loose on the head.

Yes, it does have AS, which presumably means Arca Swiss…! Yes, you are right, it turns out the Gitzo plate (pictured) was not required after all. There is a raised screw on the tripod head (the smaller of the three screws in the picture) which sits inside one of the grooves on the underside of the scope foot, so hopefully that should help with the foot coming loose from the head.

I think the plate loosening issue was as a result of the round metal screw on the bottom of the foot coming loose (have pictured attached and loose), hopefully not having to use the plate will negate this issue.

Thanks both for the input, much appreciated!

That is the 3/8"x16 to 1/4"x20 adapter, a constant source of problems.
I wish scope manufacturers would deliver without, or at least pack them separately. There might then be a larger offer of QR plates with 3/8" screws,.
After all, most tripods and heads have a 3/8" fixing.

One option is to removed the section that clamps onto the plate and replace it with one that has a more secure clamping force.
