Oh. Forgot about that one. I don't believe that one has been found at Bunyip.

Short answer: It's not a Red-capped!
It's not a Jacky either.

I'm actually surprised you all managed to go through the entire robin family without getting it. Non-buffy wingbars anyone?

Female Robin's aren't my strongpoint - much nicer to see the males anyway |;| (no offence to the girls, but still!)

Unfourtunately the male was a shade-lover....Anyway, if no one else has put anything up next week, then I guess I'll have to find some more.

Okay, here's some more. All in southern Victoria. Name all the birds (image #2 has two different species in).

All are common species as a whole, none are particularly range-restricted.

Hmm... first one looks like a cormorant, maybe little pied
second photo, first bird, is a darter
second photo, back bird, looks like another little pied cormorant
black-faced cuckoo-shrike (possibly the other one)
golden-headed cisticola

I have no idea what that eye is... reminds me of a shoebill!!! Maybe a pelican?

1- is wrong. The feet should give it away, as should the wings.
2- Both are correct.
3- Is a Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike
4- Is a Golden-head.
And 5 you are no where close!

So that leaves 1 and 5. The others were too easy I think....

So...unless I'm mistaken the score is as follows:

Azzy = 1
PeeJay = 1
gropperwinch = 1
RobHynson = 2
Silverwolf = 2
Chowchilla = 3
Gavin Goodyear = 3
birdboybowley = 4
Joshua-B = 16
John_WA = 19

We need some way to get the others back!

1 looks like a duck, maybe female Hardhead?

Last one looks like a Brush Stone-curlew, but I'm not sure how common they are in Victoria

No on both accounts. Joshua was closer with Little Pied on the first. I suppose the guides don't really portray this kind of pose, but in the field the feet really stand out. I chose a backlit image on purpose.

The second...it's something coastal. Save the occasional migrant/vagrant species, it is pretty much the only of its family to occur in Australia. Quite a tourist attraction too.

That would make the last one a Little Penguin :)
Still have no clue with the first one. Pattern matches a grebe, but the feet are wrong - is it some kind of pelagic seabird?

Yes for Little Penguin. No for grebe, no for duck and no for pelagic seabird! Here's another picture. And it appears that only the females have this colour on the feet.

Again all in the vicinity of Melbourne. None particularly rare, though a couple may be hard to come by. Depends where you go.
