Land of Parrots Hi VB: I just returned on February 27th of this year from a 6 month filming adventure in Aus. I was filming Australian Parrots. Here is what I found important to note when on a budget. Even though you are probably already there you might consider some tips. If you can purchase an inexpensive set of camping gear Caravan Parks are extremely economical. Most expensive was $33 least expensive $8. I found buses and trains very expensive compared to flying. I used www.webjet.com almost exclusively. One trip I took from Syd to Cairns was only $200 round trip. This left me money to rent cars and go specifically to target certain species... ie. golden shouldered parrot, etc. If you dont mind a bit of flying its definitely economical. Virgin Airways and Jetstar are winners and Quantas often tries to compete with them making that an advantage as well. So in summary I found I got a lot more bang for my buck in Aus by flying/renting cars/staying in Caravan Parks. Along with filming 52 species of parrots (including some rare ones) I saw a ton of other great species such as Cassowary and no end to dramatic Aussie landscape. Let me know if I can give any pointers if it helps. Feel free to drop me a line at email: ibwonet1@gmail.com Cheers! Don
